#9 - MyGoodies
Big Joe
Obviously MyGoodies landed in this spot because of the votes they received, but for me this is a BIG surprise. Though they finished dead last in the standings last year, this team has made many changes and upgrades to warrant at least a middle of the pack ranking. Lets recap some of the changes that this team has gone through from last season to this one.
Last off season their keepers were:
R. Nash, K. Okposo, M. Grabovski, M. Hossa, M. Gaborik, T. Enstrom, J. Hiller. Minors: J. Reimer, J. Gustavsson, J. Bernier.
A very lack luster group to say the least. Going into last season with this core you could almost see MyGoodies was headed for a tough season. Though that was the case, he didn't waste the season and made the most of an off year by revamping their roster to make their team competitive right away (not too young) and set up for years to come. This is a classic case of a retooling gone right.
Coming into this season, MyGoodies new set of keepers are:
M. Richards, J. Carter, M. Gaborik, A. Semin, L. Eriksson, J. Thornton, P. Stastny, C. Crawford, T. Rask. Minors: R. Strome, E. Lack, J. Bernier.
In my eyes this is a drastic change for the better. This is what a little research and some hard work can do when applied the right way. The one area that MyGoodies might come up short in, is goaltending. Corey Crawford is on a much better team than Hiller is, BUT Crawford will need to find his game again to keep MyGoodies afloat. Many people feel that Rask could be one of the top fantasy goalies this year, but he can't do it all himself.
This offseason MyGoodies traded away some early picks for Big J and Paul Stastny. Going into the draft they didn't have a 1st or 2nd rounder, but midway through the 2nd round they saw a player still available and traded up to get Danny Briere 16th overall who if gets back to form, could be a HUGE part of their bounce back season. They also drafted a promising young goalie in Eddie Lack in the 10th round which could turn out to be a steal. The last rabbit pulled from MyGoodies magic hat was Sergei Kotstitsyn in the 12th round (145 overall) who could provide really good value with that late of a pick.
MyGoodies was all over the map in the preseason rankings. They were ranked as high 2nd and as low as last place (four times). I think MyGoodies makes the playoffs this season sliding into 5th or 6th spot. The TOFHL GM's tend to lean towards last year standings, but in this case I see a much different outcome.Bi
