Howard 2 Howard
-TOFHL INSIDER-
More major shakeups in the TOFHL world as Project Hollywood cuts bait on Jimmy Howard, Marian Hossa and an 11th rounder for Five Knuckle Shuffle's Matt Moulson, a 1st rounder, and a 5th round pick.
Perhaps this was a reaction to the fact that Team Shake N' Bake was starting to make some moves and fellow top dog Five Knuckle Shuffle was looking to bolster his team, but he is clearly buying in for the run at a cup in our shortened season. Jimmy Howard (G-DET), Marian Hossa (RW-CHI) and an 11th round pick find its way to padding Chris Howard's team, filling in an obvious spot created by Craig Anderson's injury. While Jimmy Howard is a major name in fantasy hockey, this insider has never been too high on him and considers him a contradiction of being the worst guaranteed 30-win goalie in the league. However, if one needs quality starts, Jimmy Howard is your guy. With Detroit playing in the Post-Lidstrom era, Jimmy has suffered the most, off to a 3.08 GAA and .896 sv%, coming off of his best work just last season, where he played to a 2.12 GAA and a .920 sv% with 6 shutouts. It appears that Project Hollywood saw the trend and was jumping ship quickly, however Jimmy will be a viable piece for Five Knuckle Shuffle in his playoff run, giving him the quality starts lost by what many believe to be his MVP, Anderson. Not to be outshined, more than just a throw in is the addition of Marian Hossa to the deal. The RW is one of the NHL's premier forwards and can be honestly dominant when he's not getting elbowed in the back of the head. Hossa is a major component to the Hawks' huge surge to start the season, going 8-6-14 so far. While it isn't clear if Hossa has any more 82+ point seasons left in the tank, the former 12th overall pick has been a consistent 199 points in 220 games as a Blackhawk.
Project Hollywood looks to throw Plus/Minus in the trash by going all in on the NY Islanders, pairing their centerpiece John Tavares with newly acquired Matt Moulson (LW-NYI). Moulson has been a Power-play powerhouse so far this season, showing off a 9-10-19 stat line with 10 of those points coming on the power play. This can be both a positive and a negative, as it does prove that Moulson's value is a situational one, however he does have very high short-term and mid-level keeper status as Tavares' trusty winger. There is concern for the production of this line 5 on 5, as even with 19 points, Moulson currently shows a -7 and last year with 69 points, was only a +1. His value undoubtedly comes on the man advantage, as just one season ago only James Neal and Scott Hartnell scored more PP goals then Moulson. The former LA King has entered the 30 goal club every year playing with Tavares, so any coach that would change that line would be pretty crazy. Moulson is also coming off his career best year, having 36 goals and 33 assists in 82 games last season, carrying it over into this new shortened lockout year.
Again with 1st round picks being moved, it appears that yet another team has bought in on selling off assets in hopes for a better future, Project Hollywood currently sits at 9th place but as of this writing is beating Gorilla Warfare 7-3. There must be concern for his goaltending in the future, as Pavelec and Lindback are a talented but still unproven liability of a pair in net. This also sets up many interconnected rivalries, as the Five Knuckle Shuffle vs MyGoodies' rivalry and money bet will now have even more implications, as Team Shake N Bake and Project Hollywood own their respective first round picks, essentially making this a tag team of Howard/Torsten/Dru vs Trevor/ZD/Nidetz.
