-TOFHL INSIDER-
Project Hollywood gains an influx of experience with the additions of Ryan Miller, Jarome Iginla, Ray Whitney and Zdeno Chara from Vonderkats for Gabriel Landeskog, Charlie Coyle, Travis Zajac and Minority Report's 2012 1st rounder.
Project Hollywood has been making some serious moves again, as this season has had more big moves in a short period of time than normal in the TOFHL. First and foremost, Project Hollywood qualms the commentary about his goaltending with the addition of Ryan Miller (G-BUF), a wayward franchise goaltender who is seeking a change in scenery in both the NHL and TOFHL. A modest goaltender right now at 2.96 GAA and .909 sv%, the player has been seeking to regain his form that saw him lead the US Olympic team in Vancouver. Not to be outdone are Jarome Iginla (RW-CGY), Ray Whitney (LW-DAL) and Zdeno Chara (D-BOS), who all together have a combined 3,488 games played in the NHL and 2,575 points in those games. While all three are showing signs of age in the career, they are all viable point producing pieces that will mix with Project Hollywood's young core of the NY Islanders, Matt Duchene and James Neal. Project Hollywood also moves a first round pick (and soon to be lottery pick) from Minority Report to Vonderkats, however can afford to make this move as he still owns his own 1st rounder as well as Five Knuckle Shuffle's.
The rebuild begins for Vonderkats who hope to rise from the ashes like a phoenix with a youth movement. Coming into the season there were high hopes for the team as they were last year's runner-up, but the core has fallen apart. In this insider's opinion, the Vonderkats have bought quite a few lottery tickets in hopes for a big payday with this trade. Gabriel Landeskog (LW-COL), is a currently the youngest
captain in the NHL, however was not considered a major offensive weapon in juniors and in his short career produced at a reasonable rate of 61 points in 98 games. Charlie Coyle (LW/C-MIN) has only played in 16 games in the NHL, but has not looked out of place although he has only scored 4 points (2-2). However, Coyle's offensive game will come with time as the theory is that power forwards take longer to develop their game in the NHL. He has had plenty of opportunity for development in the NCAA and then the CHL, and looks poised to take the next step into a top-six that is starving for scoring even with Heatley and Parise. Last but not least, the most defined piece that Vonderkats gets from the deal is Travis Zajac (C-NJ). A shaky although somewhat proven #1 center, Zajac will see the benefits of passing to the likes of Ilya Kovalchuk for the foreseeable future. The player already has two 60 point, 40+ assist seasons under his belt, although having only played 15 games during the 2011-12 season and then having a dissapointing run during 2010-11, the future seems cloudy for this keeper.
