A Spezz-tacular Trade
-TOFHL INSIDER-
Team Shake N' Bake trades Spezza, Erhoff for Fleischmann, Filppula, Erat and Enstrom from No Boundaries.
Our little fantasy world moves a little faster than the real world, where as GM Dru Brooks says he has pieces to move, he moves them (looking at you Mike Gillis).
The barn burning hot streak team of Team Shake N' Bake was looking to offload a lot of potential for right now statistics and they were pretty successful in that. Moving Jason Spezza (C-OTT) and Christian Erhoff (D-BUF), both injured players to middle of the pack No Boundaries for an impressive package of Tomas Fleischmann (LW-FLA), Valtteri Filppula (C/LW-DET), Martin Erat (RW-NSH) and Tobias Enstrom (D-WPG). Although he moved the largest piece in the deal in Spezza, he more than recoups for his losses in one-year format with the four that he recieves in return. Between the four players, Shake N' Bake recieves a total of 33 points already scored in the young season as opposed to 10 that he moved out, the bulk of them coming from a Winnipeg Jet, Tobias Enstrom. He enjoys significant upgrades to all positions with Kopecky and Umberger finding their way onto the waiver wire alongside Florida netminder Scott Clemmensen.
While it may look at first glance that Team Shake N' Bake has robbed Rob, the biggest part of the deal in large part will be the recovery and future of Jason Spezza. The addition of the perennial top line playmer alongside Ryan Getzlaf, Jamie Benn, Claude Giroux and Pavel Datsyuk makes No Boundaries have one of the deepest Center cores in the league, and that's not even mentioning Daniel Sedin. If Spezza can return to his more than point-per-game form as he did in 2011-12, then the small pieces will collect to a much larger whole for No Boundaries. This move was made for the long-term, which may say something about the current state of mind of GM Rob Rawstron, who bought big this morning on futures even though his team is still very much in the running, middle of the pack at 11-10-1, tied with another really talented team for 5th/6th place.
Now with GM Dru Brooks' pieces moved, it only appears to have displaced the problem as now No Boundaries seems to have more than 7 keeper-level players. Will the Spezza trade have lit the fuse to future movement within our league? Dominos are falling - stay tuned and find out first with the TOFHL INSIDER!
