A Van-tast-ek Swap
-TOFHL INSIDER-
Team Shake N' Bake continues to shake up their roster with another blockbuster trade of Thomas Vanek, Martin Erat, a 6th round pick for Loui Eriksson, Daniel Briere, and a 1st round pick.
Shake N' Bake must feel he is overpowering the league and moving assets to futures. He moved current Art Ross leader Thomas Vanek (LW-BUF) to MyGoodies alongside Martin Erat (RW-NSH) and a 6th round pick for Loui Eriksson (LW/RW-DAL), Danny Briere (C/RW-PHI) and a 1st rounder. This move shows overwhelming confidence for Dru Brooks, as he moves his highest point getter for two boom or bust players this year and a 1st rounder that appears to be 4th overall and in the lottery for now. Shake N' Bake continues to sell on what he intends to sell on, again making Dave Nonis look like a total fool.
Thomas Vanek was off to a blistering pace, posting a 12-13-25 in 15 GP and while he was currently leading the league, the pace seems rather impossible to uphold. Alongside of Vanek is Martin Erat, top line player for a very offensively inept Nashville Predators. While Erat is not a name brand in fantasy hockey, he has posted in the 49-57 point range for 8 straight seasons, all on the Predators. This is consistency not often found in fantasy hockey.
Loui Eriksson should no longer be considered one of the most underrated players in the NHL today, as being traded as the centerpiece for the highest point getter in the TOFHL is pretty much as important as you could possibly be. Eriksson has been rather quiet this season, putting together a solid 4-5-9 on a fringe playoff Dallas team. This former 2nd round pick however is still young, and after posting five straight over 25 goal seasons, the young stud winger will find his form once more and continue to produce at almost a point per game pace. Eriksson is an interesting commodity in fantasy hockey, a stat king without doubt, it feels like Eriksson has struggled to find a place in our keeper league, being traded to several teams in the last few years. The other side of this deal is Daniel Briere, which, I can hardly believe, is more or less a throw-in here. The former first round pick that once found himself admist a 95 point season has produced modestly ever since, and with the current youth movement going on in Philadelphia, it appears his days as a fantasy lock have passed. The flashes of brilliance are still there for Briere, as he scored 35 goals just two seasons ago.
The first round pick moving to Shake N' Bake is also a significant portion of the trade, as it shows that MyGoodies' GM is really pushing for the here and now. Currently on a 3 game losing streak, MyGoodies' sending their first rounder to re-bolster consistant top dog Dru Brooks may come back to bite them, however you do have to pay to play in this league. A very heavy risk given the hot/cold career thus far of Thomas Vanek, who has struggled to live up to his monsterous offer sheet contract, failing to come close to repeating his 84 point campaign.
