Luongo Gets His Wish:
The First trade of the 2013-2014 TOFHL season has occurred and it comes courtesy of two original franchises. After months of trade rumors, Roberto Luongo has finally been traded, although not in the capacity everyone expected. The Phenoms have acquired Luongo from My Goodies in exchange for The Phenoms first round pick this year (8th overall) and next year (2014).
The Phenoms get arguably one of the best goalies in the game today. Luongo is now, once again, the undisputed #1 in Vancouver and will be looking to put this whole mess behind him and focus on his game. Not to mention the added incentive of the Olympics this year, as Luongo is the defending Gold Medal Goalie. With this trade The Phenoms now have a very strong 1-2 Punch in net with Price and Luongo. Interestingly enough, both of these goalies could also be 1-2 in net for Canada at the Olympics. Look for The Phenoms to really be pushing to get back into the Finals this year.
My Goodies in return receives what I feel is fair value with two 1st round picks, although I do find it weird that My Goodies didn't try to replace the loss of I. Kovalchuk by getting an established player back in return for Luongo. Clearly this is the case of two teams going in different directions. With the two first round picks My Goodies is clearly stating that he is in a rebuild and, with proper drafting (which is always a crap shoot with GM Trevor Jones), My Goodies should be able to rebuild his club into the team that won the first ever TOFHL Championship. With the number of keepers increasing over the next three years, this may be a genius move by My Goodies to ensure that he is able to stockpile the best available talent.
Overall this is an excellent trade for both sides, as I feel both teams get what they were looking for. I'm giving it a score of a 7.5 as far as the "Blockbuster Level" goes. Not bad for the first trade of the season. Now let's up the ante boys.
